Indianapolis-based BKD LLP is pledging $350,000 over the next five years to help fund the Accounting Doctoral Scholars. The program was formed to help reverse a shortage of Ph.D. accounting faculty in U.S. colleges and universities. BKD will recruit top employees for the program, which will produce accounting professors in the audit and tax disciplines.
BKD joins in the effort about 70 of the country’s accounting firms, along with several state CPA societies. In total, $15 million has been committed to the program. BKD will recruit top employees for the program, which will produce accounting professors in the audit and tax disciplines. “BKD is proud to support this effort and will encourage our employees who desire to teach to enter the program,” Spencer says.
For four years, the Accounting Doctoral Scholars program will provide funding for 30 candidates a year for a total of 120 newly audit and tax trained Ph.D.s. Applicants must have recent and proven performance in audit or tax in a public accounting firm. Potential candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents committed to a career as an accounting faculty member at a U.S. university accredited in business by AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Once an individual enrolls in a doctoral program at a participating university, each Accounting Doctoral Scholar will receive an annual stipend of $30,000 for a maximum of four years.
