Meet your Conference Team

15 March 2023

What does it take to ensure Praxity’s global conferences and events live long in the memory? To find out, we speak to Praxity’s conference organisers: Jo Webster and Lani Jefferies.

Every year, a small team of professionals in Praxity Executive Office work tirelessly behind the scenes to plan and help stage the Alliance’s busy programme of conferences and events.

Central to this team are Jo Webster, Praxity’s Head of Events, and Lani Jefferies, Praxity’s Conference & Events Manager. Working closely together, and supported by Praxity Executive Office members, these two event specialists make things happen.

They book venues and keynote speakers, manage block bookings for attendees and look after delegates’ interests before, during and after the event. They ensure each event runs smoothly, including:

  • Praxity Global Tax Conference (Prague, June 4-6)
  • Praxity Global Conference (Rome, October 22-25)
  • Praxity North American International Tax Conference (Austin, Texas, November 6-8)
  • The UK and Ireland Spring Conference (Birmingham, March 7-8) and Autumn Conference (Birmingham, September 19-20)

Planning and delivering such a packed programme of events is a balancing act, says Jo. “With such a full conference schedule and being a small team, we need to balance our efforts between working on the finer detail of events that are taking place in the coming months such as managing speakers, planning dinners and liaising with events teams in our chosen venues, alongside the longer term forward planning activities, including researching and sourcing venues for future year’s conferences at the same time,” she explains.

“Fortunately, not everything is down to just Lani & I, the wider Praxity team are involved in many aspects of our conferences, and everyone plays their part in pulling everything together to give our delegates the best possible conference experience,” Jo says.

Lani adds: “My role within Praxity is very varied, from sourcing venues, negotiating contracts, liaising with hotels, delegates, speakers and DMC’s (Destination Management Companies), to name a few. It is always rewarding to have worked on the planning of a conference from start to finish and then to be able to see Praxity members come together and experience all the elements our conferences have to offer.”

Not surprisingly, Jo and Lani bring extensive experience to their respective roles. Jo has been with Praxity for just over a year, having previously spent the majority of her events career in the aerospace industry, working on delivering exhibitions and corporate events globally for the best part of 20 years. This has taken her to places as far flung as Korea, India, the U.S., and lots of places in between. Lani has just celebrated her ten-year anniversary working with Praxity. Prior to this, she worked for CIPD, organising events in the not-for-profit sector, as well as other event organisation roles.
